God has shown visions before while asleep, but I had this a vision while I was awake. I share this experience that you learn to hear and be obedient to God.

I was 18 years old while in college. I often went to church and was passionate about the Lord and my faith. While at this church, I met a 25 year old man who took an interest in me. I say he took an interest in me because I had only 3 things that interested me. God, track and field, and school. I was not one to be into boys and material things. I was quite different from my counterparts and stuck out like a sore thumb. Honestly, I  did not care that I was different until college. I was the one that was “not fun,” and so I believe I tried to blend in. It is important to know God has not called His children to blend in. He said in Romans 12:2 to not follow the patterns of the world be transformed by the renewing of our mind.

The 25 year old man also attended my college but I first met him at church. He began talking to me discussing our faith, God, and whatnot. Over the course of a month we talked and started hanging out. He was a music major and invited me to the music room where he began practicing on the piano. He left the room briefly then came back in. Upon his reentry, it was as if I had entered a spiritual realm and time stopped. He was wearing a suit and clean cut. However, God revealed the man's face to me as a demon. I had a good look at that evil face. I jumped up. The man asked if I was okay. I said yes, but I was terrified. So much that was afraid to leave. It was late that evening on campus and I was afraid to run back to my dorm. Sadly, I felt better staying put next to a demon.

Thinking back, I thought, how foolish could I stay in a relationship with someone God has revealed to be demonic. God was speaking and I shushed Him. I introduced the man to my parents shortly after. They were not sure how they felt about him. However, it did not matter that my parents did not know his true intentions because God revealed to me that he was not who he'd seem to be. Nevertheless, the man sexual assaulted me. Horrifyingly enough, he gaslighted (a manipulation tactic in which the abuser sows self-doubt and confusion in the mind of the victim.) me. I soon, though not soon enough, ended the relationship.

As I look back at that moment, the thing that saddened me the most is not the event, but that I was disobedient to God, which costed me a lot. God reminds us and warns of the dangers nearby. If we ignore His warnings, it can be fatal or mentally and emotionally fatal. The Devil tried to take from me mentally, but the favor and love of God allowed me to see Him in that moment rather than the downfall. This is not me beating myself up or ignoring what happened to me, but a recognition of what war awaits us when we ignore to seek God’s face and His will. I have had so many experiences and wish to share them all. This is one, I will never forget.

I rather God show me the evil spirits than me not see them at work unbeknownst to me. God has time after time, opened my eyes spiritually. How I use my gift is up to me. I chose to honor God and His word with this gift and share it with my church family.
